It's just North of the Tropic of Cancer, between the Islands of Eleuthera and Long Island and 130 miles Southeast of Nassau and Paradise Island. This tiny island, known for its pink sand beaches, is just 48 miles long and 4 miles across at the widest point.
Cat Island is also known for being the birth place of actor Sidney Poitier, unspoiled natural beauty, clear waters, friendly locals - and a place you will not find the typical Caribbean tourist crowd.
I stayed at Fernandez Bay Village, and there were only two other guests when I arrived. No fighting and waiting for beach chairs here (ˆ◡ˆ)
On this particular vacation Cat Island was a perfect fit for my goal of lounging on the eight miles of sunny pink sand beaches, consuming fresh conch, lobster, shrimp, Kalik beer, and fruity cocktails. I did manage the climb up to the highest point of the island (pics included in slideshow), and sail around the island.
And kayak through the mangroves
However to be honest, I spent most of the time right here!
