The lanterns are then set out to the sea with well wishes and prayers for the season. A fireworks display completes the evenings celebration of light.
The flags blue color represents fidelity, and reflects the sky and emerald surrounding waters of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
The gold represents the Caribbean's prevailing sunshine and prosperity. The triangles represent the famous twin Pitons at Soufriere rising out of the sea.
On National Day most of the islands wear the national costume or dress in the colors of the islands flag.
