Barbados Seeking to Become Sports Tourism Destination

In a big bid to promote Barbados as a Sports Tourism destination, the island has offered its sports facilities as the ideal training ground for athletes preparing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil.

Barbados has already installed a Mondo track at the National Stadium, and another track at the University of West Indies is near completion.

Other island facilities include Olympic standard swimming pools, a gymnasium which caters to multiple indoors sports, and the islands shores can accommodate canoeing, as well as other water sports. Tourism officials also noted that Barbados and Brazil share the same climate, giving an edge to the Olympic athletes.
