Jazz Fest in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival will celebrate its 18th year November 6 - 9, 2014

Presented by the Dominican Republic Ministry the annual festival features four nights of concerts in the north coast towns of Puerto Plata, Sosua and Cabarete.

The DR Jazz Fest appeals to a diverse music crowd of locals and tourists. Last years festival broke an attendance record with a combined audience of over 10,000 people. 

The festival is affiliated with FEDUJAZZ, a non-profit organization that conducts musical workshops for youth. The festival is free, but VIP tickets are available for pre-sale, benefiting FEDUJAZZ.

FEDUJAZZ helps to motivate and assist in the development of young artistic talent through its education partnership with the Dream Project and Sosua City Council, and jazz is used as the teaching platform.  

The Dominican Republic Jazz Festival is well known for its legendary performers and seaside locale with its mix of tropical climate, Caribbean culture and a Latin take on the international jazz scene. 

This year, the sounds of internationally acclaimed musicians include the following: 

November 6 -  Puerto Plata – Parque Independencia – 8:00 PM

  • Big Band Conservatory of Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic)
  • Colin Hunter (Canada)
  • Pat Pereyra and Band, Musical Direction: Rafelito Mirabal and Guy Frometa (Dominican Republic), with Special Guest Alex Jacquemin (France)

November 7 – Sosua – Hotel Casa Marina Amphitheater – 8:00 PM

  • Benny Martinez (Dominican Republic)
  • Ignacio Berroa Group (Cuba) with Giovanni Hidalgo (Puerto Rico)
  • Berklee Global Jazz Institute Student Presentation (USA) with Special Guest Joe Lovano (USA)

November 8 – Cabarete Beach- 8:00 PM

  • Edgar Molina (Dominican Republic)
  • Berklee Global Jazz Institute Student Presentation (USA)
  • Joe Lovano’s Quartet (USA)

Youth Concert – 12:00 Noon
The festival committee and FEDUJAZZ presents a series of Youth Concerts on the main stage, and performances will include three groups of young Dominican artists

November 9 – Cabarete Beach – 8:00 PM

  • Ramón Vázquez (Puerto Rico) Tríos with Edmar Colón and Danny Díaz (Puerto Rico), and Special Guest        
  • El Prodigio (Dominican Republic).
  • La Familia André (Dominican Republic)
