New Caribbean Cruise Port Spotlight: Amber Cove

The latest Carnival Cruise Line's newsletter is spotlighting the Caribbean's newest destination for 2015. 

Amber Cove, in the Dominican Republic, is a quiet little spot you will not find on most maps.  

Puerto Plata get ready for an BIG influx of cruise visitors this year!

The anticipated date is October 2015 when the new cruise center will accommodate up to 10,000 cruise passengers and crew members daily. 

This $65 million investment is the largest cruise industry ever made in the Dominican Republic. 

Amber Cove is located in the province of Puerto Plata on the Dominican Republic's north coast region. The new port is 20 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata which has not seen a cruise ship dock in almost 30 years

Onshore Activities for Cruisers to Amber Cove Include:

  • Exploring Puerto Plata, a town that began life as the first European settlement in the Americas
  • This spot is known for its remarkable local amber — actually the clearest you’ll find anywhere in the world
  • Walk the famed Malec√≥n, a three-mile-long open air beach-side boardwalk dotted with bars, restaurants and shops
  • Explore Fort San Felipe, originally built to ward off pirates
  • Swim with dolphins, stingrays — and sharks at Ocean World
