Old Years Night Celebration in the BVI

Aside from a prime sailing stopover, Jost Van Dyke is known as one of the top three places in the world to be at for New Year’s Eve - locally known as "Old Year's" Night.

The quaint no frills island of Jost (pronounced yoast) Van Dyke is the quintessential barefoot Caribbean island paradise.

Do not let the 3.4 sq mi size fool you. While Jost Van Dyke is the smallest of the British Virgin Islands, it has the most lively night life in the BVI island chain.

Foxy's hosts one of the Caribbean's best New Year's Eve parties which lasts for three days.

Located in Great Harbour,  Foxy's bar sits partially hidden among the thick coconut palms at the bottom of the tallest hill on the island.

On Old Year’s night this tiny island paradise welcomes visitors from all over the globe, and you might even find a few celebrities. Once the festivities get underway you can literally walk from one boat to another in the Harbour. There's always plenty of great food, lots of entertainment, and if you have too much "Firewater Rum" you are invited to crash on the beach.

Foxy (Philiciano) Callwood is known as the unofficial mayor of Jost Van Dyke.  Once you reach the bar you will usually find Foxy playing his guitar. He loves to talk with visitors, and his smile is infectious.

Foxy's is open Monday thru Friday for lunch and daily for dinner. The lunch menu includes rotis and burgers, while dinner features fillet mignon and lobster. On Saturday you can enjoy “all you can eat” ribs, chicken and fish.

Foxy's is also known for wicked strong rum drinks. Ask for the specialty house drinks - either Sly Fox, Dread Fox, and be forewarned about drinking more than one Wrecked on the Rocks. All the rum drinks are made from Foxy's brand "Firewater Rum", and draft beers are from his own on-site microbrewery.

During the day beach lovers can kick back on the soft white sand, and snorkeling, scuba diving, kite boarding, windsurfing, or parasailing.

If New Years Eve is not on your schedule to visit the BVI's, Foxy's has another popular event - the Wooden Boat Regatta held during Memorial Day Weekend.

Each year hundreds of visitors, along with regional and international yachts, all flock to Jost Van Dyke for sun, sea, fantastic West Indian cuisine, and non stop live music all weekend.

Decades ago Foxy Callwood started the regatta to allow owners of wooden boats to have a race all to themselves, and this event has helped preserve the island tradition of building wooden boats. A few years ago the rules were revised to allow some of the first fiberglass boats to compete, however the fiberglass boats have to be over 30 years old.
